Companionship has been the cornerstone – the beating heart – of traditional Islamic communities. Whether through seeking the guidance of a murshid to gain esoteric knowledge or building zāwiyahs communal centres for spiritual cultivation, knowledge and craft refinement. These practices have paved the way for soteriological blossoming within the Islamic tradition allowing communities to draw inspiration and exchange ideas to overcome the main challenges of their times. In these series of talks we explore this topic both drawing inspiration from traditional Islamic institutions whilst also engaging contemporary initiatives to revive the Islamicate communal spirit - steeped in spiritual depth and historical context.
